Club History

Peru last played in a World Cup tournament in 1982. Since those heady days, the Peruvians have been on the outside looking in when it came to international football. Now, the nation is back and is ranked 11th in the world by FIFA. Manager Ricardo Gareca favors a tiki-taka style of football with short, consistent passing and long periods of possession. Nearly all of Gareca’s usual call-ups play their club football in North or South America, while only a smattering of players are signed to European clubs. One player that will most likely be included in the team is Jefferson Farfan. The attacker has had an extensive career playing in Europe and currently plies his trade with Russia’s Lokomotiv Moscow.
