The second game of the day at the 2018 FIFA World Cup was between the teams of Japan and Senegal. Surprisingly or not after the first games in group H of the tournament those teams were the leaders in the company of the pre-set favorites Poland and Colombia. Counting this the teams of Japan and Senegal were familiar with the fact that a win for one of those teams will mean a sure continuation in the next stage. We did not see a win for one of those nations and the game finished as a draw 2:2.
In the beginning, the game was even and there was no domination for either team. All this ended when in the 11th minute when the goalie of Japan Eiji Kawashima basically gave up the ball to Sadio Mane who opened the score for Senegal. Until the end of the half, the Japanese started to pressure the players of Senegal with more determination and eventually were able to make the score even in the 34th minute by Inui Takashi who scored a nice goal from mid-distance. This is how the first period ended (1-1).
The second half was similar to the first one and the situation on the field did not change a lot. Japan was having a slight domination over the ball possession while Senegal was waiting for its chances on counter-attacks. In the 71st minute, Moussa Wague with his first goal for the national team of Senegal once again took the Africans ahead in the score. It looked that this time the Africans will hold off their lead but after a mistake from the goalie of the Senegal Khadim N’Diaye, one of the stars of Japan Keisuke Honda sealed the final score 2-2.
With the draw, both teams are still holding the first place with 4 points apiece and are with a high chance of progressing in the next stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
