The first game of today was between the last World Cup quarter-finalist of Costa Rica and the talented Eastern Europeans Serbia. The game finished with a win 1-0 for the Serbians but we can clearly say that both sides were equal and the game could have finished in any kind of result. The first half was fairly dynamic but there were no serious goal opportunities. Costa Rica had some really good chances after crosses but the Northern Americans were not able to open the score. The possession of the ball was for Serbia, but the Europeans were not able to create something great. Matter of fact during the whole game the Serbians had only a few chances and most of them were missed by their starting forward Aleksandar Mitrovic.

When everyone was expecting to see a draw in this game a free kick close to the goal of Keylor Navas was assigned for the Serbians. The free kick was perfectly done by a defender of Roma Aleksandar Kolarov (56’) who scored an amazing goal and shocked the goalie of Real Madrid and Costa Rica who so far was stable and disappointed all of the Serbian attackers.

Until the end of the game, Serbia was cautious on defense and the Costa Rican who typically rely on counter-attacks were just not able to find the gap in the Serbian defense. After an extra long extra time, the Serbians started with three points that will give them a great chance to fight for a top-two finish in the group in which are also the teams of Brazil and Switzerland.
