In the first game of the second round of matchups presented the teams of Russia and Egypt. Russia had won its first game against Saudi Arabia with 5-0, while Egypt, unfortunately, lost against Uruguay in the last seconds with 0-1. Now anything else than a win for the Africans would have meant that Mo Salah and company would limit their chances for the next stage to a bare minimum. Regardless of that fact, Russia won the game with 3-1 and basically qualified for the next stage of the tournament. In the same time, it is a matter of hours before Egypt is officially eliminated from the next stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The game started off even with no clear dominance for neither of the teams. Both Russia and Egypt had some chances to score a goal, but nothing serious. In this way, the first half of the game finished as a draw 0-0. The second half started with an own goal of Ahmed Fathy (47’). After this own goal the Russians gain extra powers and in the next 15 minutes scored two goals. In the 59th minute by the amazing Denis Cheryshev and in the 62nd minute by one of the strongest players of the tournament Artem Dzyuba.

With all this, the score was 3-0 for Russia and everything was pretty much decided. By the end of the game, Egypt was able to just score one goal from a penalty scored by Mohamed Salah (73’).

With those 3 points, Russia basically went to the next stage and is waiting for its opponents in the next round. Egypt on the other side lost all of its chances for something important at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which is a major disappointment for the whole nation and especially for its star Mohamed Salah.
