Club History

Cristiano Ronaldo secured his first senior international trophy in 2016 when Portugal won the European Championships. The team now go into the World Cup with high expectations to pull off an international double. Making Portugal’s Euro 2016 win even more impressive was the fact that Ronaldo didn’t finish the tournament final. Portugal’s main rival in Group B will be Spain, and theoretically, the two Iberian nations will compete for the top two spots in the group. Manager Fernando Santos will need to get some of his best players in form for the World Cup. AC Milan’s Andre Silva, an important member of the team, has barely featured for the Italians since moving to the Rossoneri. In addition, the team still relies on older players like Ricardo Quaresma, Jose Fonte and Bruno Alves. Can Ronaldo inspire Portugal to another tournament win? Anything is possible.
