Club History

Japan manager Vahid Halihodozic will be at his third straight World Cup. In 2010, he managed Ivory Coast to qualification and four years later led Algeria to the tournament. Halihodozic’s teams play counterattacking football and play with target man No. 9. Because of Halihodozic’s style of play, three of Japan’s most popular players – Keisuke Honda, Shinji Kagawa and Shinji Okazaki – have lost their places in the squad. Japan has entered a new international era under Halihodozic, but it could be a difficult time for the team in Russia.
