Club History

Iran have qualified for its second consecutive World Cup thanks to a brilliant Asian Football Confederation qualifying campaign. Ranked 33rd, Iran is the highest placed AFC team at this year’s World Cup. Manager Carlos Queiroz has years of experience as a manager with big football clubs and countries. He led Iran to the tournament as the first AFC team to qualify and hopes will be high that the team can get through to the knockout stage despite Portugal and Spain sharing Group B. Ten players that Queiroz has called up to his recent squads ply their trades in Europe. The experience of these players in the best leagues will be key in the team’s performances. While the national team used to mostly be made up of players from the domestic league, Iran has grown as a footballing country. Will it pay off in Russia? Unfortunately, Iran’s group draw wasn’t kind.
