Club History

Ranked 37th by FIFA, Australia is playing in its fourth consecutive World Cup tournament. Australia had to beat Syria and Honduras in back-to-back playoff series to qualify for the World Cup. It wasn’t smooth sailing and the Aussies lacked the quality they showcased in previous tournaments. Due to the team’s poor qualification and the mounting pressure, manager Ange Postecoglou resigned. Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk took over the managerial reins, but the Australian Football Association has already found his replacement for after the World Cup. It seems the Aussies are in a state of disarray. The team does have some exciting talent in the form of Huddersfield’s Aaron Mooy, Hertha Berlin’s Mathew Leckie and Bochum’s Robbie Kruse.
