Central Stadium now also called Ekaterinburg Arena is one of the oldest stadium in Russia built in 1953 and 1957.  The Stadium is located in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The stadium was built as a multipurpose Arena. The stadium holds histories of thousands of events which includes sports as well as entertainment.

As part of 2018 FIFA world cup, four group matches will be hosted at the Central Stadium


The Stadium holds a capacity of 35, 000 which is raised to 45, 000 temporarily as part of 2018 FIFA world cup



The Central Stadium had a capacity of 27, 000, when the renovation of the stadium was planned in 2000’s. The first phase of renovation started in 2007 and was completed in 2011 which gave the stadium new makeover.

When the stadium was selected as the 2018 FIFA world cup venue in 2012, it was not able to meet the standards of the FIFA. Thus the second phase of renovation work started in 2015 which included the temporary seating arrangement.  The reconstructed stadium was ready by 2017


Major Events

The Central Stadium has been the venue for many events. The stadium has hosted ice-skating events and hence became one of the world’s important stadium for skating events.

In 1959, World All round Speed Skating Championships for women was held here. From 1963 to 1974, there were many matches between World’s National Speed Skating Teams. From 1958 – 1966, many championships of the USSR also took place in the stadium. Similarly more than 1000 events were held in the stadium. The 2018 FIFA World Cup is the next event that will be taking place in the Stadium
