Surprisingly or not the current World Cup champions from Germany started off their campaign for defending the trophy with a loss against the brave team of Mexico (0-1). While many German fans might think that Germany was dominating during this game, the reality was that the Mexicans played a much better game than their Europeans opponents. Matter of fact if the Mexican forwards were with an idea more concentrated in front of the goal the result could have been different. From the first minutes of the game the Mexican attacks or let’s say the Mexican counter-attacks were extremely dangerous and it was just a matter of time before the North Americans score a goal. The most normal thing happened and after one of those great counter-attacks the star of the Mexicans and current forward of the Dutch club team PSV Hirving Lozano (35’) scored the only goal in the game.
Until the end of the first half Germany was not able to react and the period ended with the score 0-1. When everyone was expecting a much better performance from the Germans in the second period, the Mexicans continue with the great performance on defense and even slowed the tempo. The subs of Joachim Low were late and all three players that came in (Mario Gomez, Marco Reus and Julian Brandt) could not help the Germans to avoid the loss. Late in the second half, a perfect chance was opened for Chicharito and Carlos Vela but after a bad pass from Javier Hernandez, the Mexicans did not have the chances to make their win even bigger. With this win, Mexico took the lead in the group and showed to everyone that the team came to Russia with the intention to achieve something great.
