One of the most interesting games of the day was the one between Peru and Denmark. Both sides showed some really interesting things and the game was one of the most dynamic once since the beginning of the World Cup. Hardly Denmark won the game with 1-0, but the three points did not come easy for the Europeans. Peru was counted as the worse team in this battle but the South Americans were playing really well led by their biggest star Jefferson Farfan. There were no serious chances for Denmark during the first half, while Peru was a bit more active. In the last minute of the half after an assist from the VAR system, Peru received a penalty that was shockingly missed by Christian Cueva.
The missed penalty probably affected the concentration of the South Americans and early in the second half after an amazing counter-attack and perfect pass by the star of the Europeans Christian Eriksen, Yussuf Poulsen (59’) scored the only goal of the game.
The goal of Denmark was followed by plenty of attacks for Peru including few shots from the star of the team Paolo Guerrero who checked into the game in the second half. Regardless of all that, Denmark was able to keep the three points and in this way send a statement to the other teams in the group that they will fight for a top-two finish.
