On the sixth day of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, we finally saw a win from an African team. The first African nation that achieved the win is Senegal (1-2) that surprisingly or not won against the national football team of Poland. The Europeans that are led by Robert Lewandowski were counted as favorites not only in this game but in the whole group in which we can also find the teams of Colomba and Japan. Since the beginning of the game, Poland took the lead of the game, but without creating any goal scoring opportunities. The game was pretty even, but it was cleared that Senegal could be dangerous when the team counter-attacks. The quick forwards of the team were just too fast for the slow Polish defenders. In one of those counter-attacks, after a long distance shot Thiago Cionek (37’) scored an own goal and Senegal took the lead with 0-1. Until the rest of the half, we did not see much from both sides.
The second half started with a domination of the Europeans. Regardless of this fact after a mistake by Grzegorz Krychowiak, Mbaye Niang (60’) scored the second goal for the African side.
From that point forward Poland was just not able to recovery and the star of the team Robert Lewandowski was pretty much isolated from the game. Poland was only able to return one goal after a cross from the right side of the teams’ attack. Grzegorz Krychowiak (86’) scored a beautiful header.
Still this was the only thing which Poland did by the end of the game and for this reason, Senegal stole the 3 points which are extremely important counting the fact that this is probably the evenest group among all 8 groups of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
