The last game for the day was between Croatia and Nigeria. Not many people expected a spectacle in this game and the expectations became a reality. Both teams were cautious on defense and only the class of the Croatians gave them the 2-0 win that made them favorites and leaders in Group D of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Europeans were a bit more motivated and offensively minded in the beginning but there were no serious chances in front of the goal of Nigeria. All this was valid until the 32nd minute of the game when after a set piece for Croatia, Etebo Oghenekaro scored an own goal that gave the lead to the Croatians.

By the end of the first half, nothing interesting happened and the two teams finished the half with the score 1-0 for Croatia. The second half started off with a slight pressure from the Nigerians that led to only a few corners in front of the goal of Croatia. The game was pretty even until the 71st minute when after a penalty Luka Modric scored a second goal that finally ended the dilemma for the game.

Until the end, Croatia could have scored more goals, but this did not happen. With those three points, Croatia took the lead in the group and is waiting for its next games against Argentina and Iceland much calmer.
