Ex-England star Alan Shearer became the latest football personality to come down on VAR use in the World Cup after the Group B clash between Portugal and Iran.

VAR was the highlight of the match as the referee halted the game on multiple occasions for VAR consultation.

The frequent interruptions definitely had its toll on the match as the teams played out a mundane 1-1 draw, looking far from their best.

“Well that’s the closest I’ve been to swearing on live TV!” Shearer reacted after the match ended.

“What I really wanted to say is that VAR is complete and utter bollocks!!” the Newcastle United legend concluded.

The draw earned Portugal a runners-up position in Group B and set up a round of 16 meeting with Group A winners Uruguay on Saturday.
